BiscuitClub, owned by Haleena Hanson. She specializes in Biscuits and Gravy as well as a few other treats. They offer a dose of “Wake Up” by Bullet Proof Coffee, which keeps everyone going. She supports local business by buying things like salt from Prince William Sound Salt Co, which is available for purchase in the shop, among other products. Haleena also supports local artists and decorates the BiscuitClub with their work, like a mural under her front counter from local favorite artist Ted Kim.

The Kobuk
Michael, Nina and Deborah Bonito grew up in an army family. Nothing like moving to a new assignment every two years to make for a tight sibling bond! So it was natural that they decided to invest together in their favorite downtown shop. Each with their own specialty; Mike a baker, Nina a very organized teacher and Deborah an entrepreneur, the Bonitos have worked hard to preserve the historic flavor of The Kobuk while bringing in trendy and fun product lines.
Mike has since retired to the Kenai peninsula to fish the mighty King Salmon, but Deborah and Nina carry on the Kobuk tradition of friendly customer service and Alaska hospitality.

Fire Island Rustic Bakeshop is a small artisan bakery which began in 2009 in the heart of South Addition – one of Anchorage’s oldest downtown neighborhoods. In the fall of 2015, a second location was opened in the charming Airport Heights neighborhood, just south of Merrill Field.

Bear Tooth Theaterpub
At the Bear Tooth Theatrepub, you can eat a full meal while watching your favorite films! We offer freshly prepared food (think pizzas, burritos, and a myriad of other delights) made from local ingredients when possible, draft beer from Broken Tooth Brewing, wine, and margaritas. Koot’s
Located in the heart of historic Spenard, Chilkoot Charlie’s first opened its doors on January 1, 1970 in what had been The Alibi Club. “Koot’s,” as it is affectionately called by locals, began as a neighborhood watering hole with a live piano bar. The bar was very limited in size then, occupying only the part of the building that is now standing.
Chilkoot Charlie’s features a rustic Alaska atmosphere with 3 stages, 3 dance floors and 10 bars (11 in the summertime!) with padded tree stumps and beer kegs for seating. Literally filled to the rafters with such things as famous band photos & autographs, huge beer can collections, hilarious gags, and tons of Alaska memorabilia, a person could wander around Chilkoot Charlie’s for days and still not see everything. In its 30-year history, Chilkoot Charlie’s has truly become an Alaskan institution.
For many, it is as much a part of Alaska as mountains and glaciers. Chilkoot Charlie’s is considered a “Rite of Passage” for Alaskans coming of age and a definite “must see” for visitors to Alaska.

In April of 2014, the Block founders walked into the Adults Only porn store on Spenard Road. It took years to negotiate the purchase of the property, but they finally got the keys in 2015. After cleaning, painting, and burning sage, the new owners opened the space to poets and dancers, musicians and painters, writers and artists. These Art Occupations helped transform a place associated with sex trafficking, drug dealing, and disconnection into a community hub.

In 2017, owner Emerald Kroeker, at the age of 24, faced multiple health issues that challenged her way of life. When Western medicine let her down, she took a hard look at nutrition and how it could bring life and healing into her life. Following this research, the need for accessible, healthy, whole foods became so apparent to her. In 2019, she found a food truck for sale online and started her business, two years later in 2021 she rented space for a restaurant in the heart of downtown Palmer and the rest is history!
Omnivore is currently the only fully gluten-free restaurant in the state of Alaska and strives to provide a place where anyone can find something delicious to eat. We also do not use any grain, corn, soy, dairy, peanuts or refined sugar in our cooking.
